Dear Birth Mother,
We met through work in 2002 and have been happily married for 8 years. We tried to start a family soon after we were married and after several months of trying we found out that we had infertility issues. After some infertility treatments we immediately focused on adoption to fulfill our dreams of becoming parents and creating a family. It was our faith that allowed our prayers to be answered and brought Dante into our lives in October of 2005. We hope that someday soon our prayers will be answered once again. Our lives together as a family have been so fulfilling. We moved into our new home 4 years ago and made sure that our new community was close to our family and friends along with places like good schools, beaches, parks and shopping. We found a wonderful and unique 40 year old preschool for Dante that is located on a small ranch property and has ponies, chickens and dogs. Dante loves animals so much that we became members of the San Diego Zoo. When he is out of school, he keeps very active with sports. Our local country club offers sports camp that includes swimming, tennis and golf. We also like spending family time at our local country club, which is geared towards families. On weekends we use the pool as well as meet our friends and their children for dinner. Another loving part of our home life is our dogs Beatrice and Malcolm. They love to be taken for walks and especially love it when Dante chases them around the house and yard. Our home is a gathering point for our family and friends where we watch sports, movies, play games and where Alicia gets to cook (one of her favorite pass times).
We are very fortunate that Joe works from home as a consultant and Alicia relishes that she is a stay at home Mom. Joe enjoys the challenges of his job and is lucky that his job gives him the freedom to take Dante to pre-school in the morning and attend some of his activities during the week. They also like to sneak out and play 9 holes of golf on some afternoons. Alicia loves being a stay at home Mom. She keeps active by planning many things for Dante. Since Dante was 6 months old Alicia has put him in some type of class. She also keeps herself busy volunteering as a member of the Junior League of San Diego. Our parents instilled the importance of faith, family, education and hard work and we are doing the same for Dante. We cannot remember a holiday or special occasion from our childhoods that did not include Grandparents, Uncles, Aunts, and Cousins and cherished family traditions. The same is true now for Dante, where almost all his holidays are spent with his extended family. We are lucky to have Alicia’s mom and brother live close by in San Diego and spend time with them almost every weekend. Although Joe’s family is not close, trips are made frequently to see each other. The importance of education and hard work were always valued and emphasized to us by our parents. Our parents were always there to support us and still are to this day. We were taught at an early age that if we studied and worked hard, we could achieve anything. We are working on doing the same for Dante each day by our actions. Dante will often ask excitedly if we can do homework together after dinner.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read our letter. Though this letter is short we hope that we have provided a glimpse into our lives and you can feel that we are supportive and loving parents. We hope to be loving and caring parents to your child. What can we say to you when you are making the most important decision of your life? We can say that we have seen firsthand the strength and courage it takes to choose adoption for your Child. Our names are Alicia and Joe and we were blessed 41/2 years ago through adoption with our son Dante. It is our hope that we will be blessed again with the adoption of another child and a sibling for Dante. We want to thank you for taking the time to read our letter and we hope that it gives you a little glimpse of who we are.
One of our greatest joys as parents has been to start new traditions or pass down old family traditions to Dante. One new family tradition we have started is making pancakes every weekend. Lounging in his pajamas, Dante now expects one weekend morning to have his “cakes” as he calls them. One tradition that has been passed down to Dante by his two older cousins is a traditional Easter egg hunt. Dante loves to walk around the backyard finding the eggs that his cousins have dyed for him and hopefully before the dogs find them!
We grew up so close with our siblings and we really want this for Dante. Many of his friends have siblings and he asks when he will have a brother or sister. He has such a loving personality that he would make a great big brother. We pray for the chance to do the same for him.
